On paper it is a retirement home, but one look at this modern, bright and cheerful new building is enough to tell you that this is a lunch club with a difference. Inside The Elms there is a bright and airy café with computers linked to the internet and just nearby there is a hairdressing salon and beauty parlour.
Paul Jeal the Catering Manager at The Elms is delighted to able to work with our Come Eat Together project. He said, “I know how a tasty meal can make a difference to your day and my team and I are pleased to be able to help Age UK County Durham combat loneliness in this way. I am happy to adjust the menu to suit the needs of the new diners. Please come along and enjoy what we have to offer.”
Stephanie Esteris, Come Eat Together Development Worker is excited by this new dining experience. “This is more than just a delicious two course meal. This is a new monthly lunch club in lovely surroundings and we hope older people who maybe feel a bit lonely and bored with eating on their own will enjoy coming together. We will follow the lunch with a little quiz or friendly chat to make this a monthly treat to look forward to. Everyone here is keen to make us feel welcome”.
The lunch takes place on the second Monday of the month from 1.00pm until 2.30pm. A freshly cooked meal and desert with tea or coffee and activity costs £6.00.
