Aspiring chefs are cooking up a storm for older people in County Durham

Catering student at New College Durham are inviting people aged over 50 who live on their own to come and make new friends whilst dining in style.

Age UK County Durham’s Come Eat Together project, has teamed up with New College Durham who have opened the doors to their fabulous Le Nouveau Restaurant to host a monthly lunch club.

All meals are prepared and cooked-to-order and served by the College’s aspiring student chefs, waiters and waitresses supported by qualified and experienced teaching staff.

Harriet Gibbon, Chief Executive of Age UK County Durham said

“Come Eat Together enables people who live alone or are carers to enjoy dining out with others in pleasant surroundings.

This is an intergenerational project and we are delighted that New College Durham are giving older people in the area the opportunity to mix with young people who are learning important skills.”

Each month diners can enjoy a delicious freshly cooked meal followed by a sociable activity.”

Ann (60) who volunteers to meet and greet the lunch club members said “Come along and join us, socialise, meet new people and enjoy great conversation over a good meal!”

Diners receive a delicious, freshly cooked two-course meal with tea or coffee for £5. The next lunch starts at 12.30pm on Tuesday February 14, 2017 then continuing on the second Tuesday of every month.
