We wish you a merry Christmas

Come Eat Together has been getting into the festive spirit celebrating Christmas. From Christmassy quizzes to foodie shopping runs we’ve been ensuring that older people have the best Christmas possible.

christmas-in-south-ba-collOur first Christmas party was held at Bishop Auckland College. Our participants were greeted by cheery students and received a three course Christmas Fayre prepared and served by the catering students. An added treat was a free raffle and a chance to get the first viewing of the Christmas Panto, Sleeping Beauty.

Oakleaf Sports complex, in Newton Aycliffe, hosted a competitive five-round Christmas Quiz followed by a delicious two-course carvery. Whilst on the other side of town Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre also hosted a 2 course carvery followed by Bingo.

ncd-christmas-16Our new lunch clubs at Derwentside College, New College Durham and our new Spennymoor lunch club, taking place at the council offices on Green Lane, all launched with two-course Christmas meals with festive activities. We pulled crackers, told jokes and laughed over the bingo.

At our Gents Breakfast in Durham the Christmas jumpers were all out and there was a lovely jolly atmosphere. Many of our group live alone so this was a great opportunity to mix and enjoy some Christmas camaraderie. At Northumbrian Water there was a special visit by Santa to provide a great start to Christmas!

dv-diners-christmas-16There was also good food and good company at our Christmas lunches at Coundon and Leeholme, Crook, Selby Close, Wheatbottom, Dovedale and Shildon Dine and Dance. Our Derwent Valley Diners came together to dine out. Our activities are a great opportunity for volunteers and homebound older people to make new friends.

As well as lots of Christmas lunches our shopping clubs were out in force ensuring everyone got their Christmas treats. Shildon, Bishop, Wear Valley and Newton Aycliffe shopping clubs took local residents to a variety of supermarkets to stock up. As an added treat and a chance to relax and get to know one another all the shopping clubs came together for a Christmas Party at the Saxon Inn in Escomb.

We would like to thank all the volunteers for their help in making Christmas extra special and for their tireless work throughout the year. If you would like more information about our activities please contact us on 0191 374 6577

Below is a slideshow with a selection of photographs from our festive fun. Merry Christmas everyone.
