We’ve had the bunting out throughout May and June across the county to Celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Our Come Eat Together members loved joining in the festivities and came along to coffee mornings, afternoon teas and royal themed lunches.
All our lunch clubs joined in the birthday celebrations. Rooms were decorated with bunting and flags and everyone enjoyed the party atmosphere.
Baring Court held a coffee morning on the Queens official birthday, celebrating in style with a party buffet, raffle and a hugely enjoyable game of musical bingo. Our shopping club members and volunteers came together at Consett and Bishop Auckland Fire stations to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea, with plenty of cakes and scones.
A very special Royal Quiz
We also took our Royal Quiz out to many activities to test people’s knowledge on all things ‘Royal’. Did you know that Susan, the Queen’s Corgi remained hidden at the Queen’s feet as she and Philip were driven from Buckingham Palace in an open carriage after their wedding? Or that the Queen owns all the sturgeons, porpoises and whales in the waters around the UK under a statute from 1324 that is still in effect?
There’s been food fit for a Queen, lots of fun and laughter and even a few interesting and unusual facts learnt.
Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II, from all at Age UK County Durham and the Come Eat Together Project!
