Age UK County Durham’s Come Eat Together Team has been working in partnership with a Community Association located in a small rural village in Wear Valley to bring older people together with food.
Taking place in the historic Leeholme Welfare Hall on the third Tuesday of each month, older residents of Coundon and Leeholme have been enjoying a home style two course meal, delivered to them freshly prepared by a local caterer. The tasty meals on offer include traditional favourites such as shepherd’s pie, mince and dumplings and various roast dinners, followed by a warm dessert.
It’s not just lunch on offer, there’s also the chance to catch up with new and old friends over a cuppa. As well as joining in a variety of after lunch activities such as quizzes and bingo.
Volunteers from Coundon and Leeholme Community Association are thrilled with the lunches and welcome anyone over 50 to come along. A two course lunch with tea or coffee is £5.50. Up and coming activities will include an over 60’s exercise demonstration, how to grow your own food at home talk and musical bingo.
The next lunch will be held on Tuesday 15th March from 12.30. For more information and to book your place please contact the Come Eat Together Team on 0191 3746577.
