More than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.
Contrary to what many people think, loneliness is not a normal part of ageing, and it not only makes life miserable, it can have a serious impact on your physical and mental health too. Our Come Eat Together project provides crucial companionship and support to older people across County Durham by bringing people together to make a difference. If you would like to help, please contact us on 0191 375 6577 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We also want local and national government to understand that older people’s loneliness really matters; and we want them commit to take action with us to prevent and tackle it.
And we recognise that loneliness can’t be tackled by Government action alone. We all have a role to play as individuals, families and communities in ensuring older people feel valued and included and that’s why we’re asking everyone to join us in taking action.
Please sign and share the Age UK national petition to demonstrate that loneliness in later life needs to be addressed: No one should have no one http://bit.ly/1OUKEZ3 #NoOne
