Staff and volunteers feel they are benefiting personally from becoming Dementia Friends with Age UK County Durham.
On a rainy and rather dreary Monday morning in Consett, three more volunteers and Stephanie from the Come Eat Together team took time out to learn how to make life easier for those who are living with Dementia.
Everyone agreed that taking time to learn about Dementia and discuss it together helped them to feel more confident about the subject. One of the volunteers told us “I didn’t realise there were different types of Dementia and that it affects more than just your memory. Now I know that there are a number of actions I can take to make it easier for people to live well with Dementia. I will be using this knowledge in my volunteering role and in my life.”
Our volunteers are vital in our work to make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Providing training such as this helps them be confident in their role and helps us too.
