This week the Gala Theatre in Durham once again welcomed older people into their large airy Studio 2 for our monthly lunch club. Our guests enjoyed a delicious two course meal of corned beef pie, new potatoes and seasonal vegetables, followed by fresh cream gateaux for dessert. While the meal was being enjoyed there were lots of stories being shared about what everyone had done during the Easter weekend. The sun was shining and the room was filled with smiles and laughter.
After lunch participants enjoyed listening to our guest speaker. This month we welcomed Alistair Monk, a Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist from NHS North of England Commissioning Support to the lunch club. Alistair presented an interesting presentation on a variety of topics such as the NHS today, cost of prescriptions, concerns about medicine waste and antibiotics. Following Alistair’s talk, guests were invited to ask questions.
There were many questions answered and there were lots of comments as people left the theatre about how enjoyable the afternoon had been.
We also had a visit from our local Police Community Support Officers. The PSCO’s drop in to our lunch every month to visit our guests, giving them the opportunity to get to know them and ask any questions they may have.
If you are interested in coming along to our monthly lunch at the Gala Theatre please contact the ‘Come Eat Together’ team on 0191 374 6577 to reserve your place.
